ATNR, STNR, Moro, and TLR are early reflexes that should fade as the brain matures. Rough guide. ATNR around 6 to 8 months, STNR around 8 to 10 months, Moro around 3 to 4 months, and parts of TLR can persist up to about 3.5 years. This is a reflex test... It's called the Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR). This reflex should normally integrate (go away) by around 6 months of age. If it's still present later, it can affect posture, hand-eye coordination, and even reading and writing skills. You can check this on your child by having them in a "puppy push-up" position, gently turning their head side to side, and watching to see if their arms straighten or bend in response. The ATNR should integrate around 6 months, but sometimes it doesn’t! Movement-based primitive reflex activities can help kickstart the reflex into integration to help it lie dormant in the brain stem. These two exercises are functional, play activities that are beneficial for the ATNR! 1.
