Vertical shaft alignment is the process of aligning the rotational centers of two or more vertical shafts so they are co-linear with each other when the machines are under normal operating conditions. Running a pump with misaligned shafts causes undue strain on the bearings of both the pump and motor, as well as causing vibrations that can rapidly cause seal failure.
