CSX Locomotive #1900 is officially here, honoring the Seaboard Air Line Railroad (SAL)! When the SAL was established in 1900, an ‘air line’ referred to the shortest, straight-line distance between two points rather than air travel. SAL’s rail network contributed greatly to the economic development of the Southeastern United States until the railroad merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1967 to become the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, and eventually part of CSX. CSX joined the annual Seaboard Festival in #Hamlet, NC, which celebrates the town's legacy as the "Hub of the Seaboard," one of our predecessor railroads. The CSX fleet of heritage locomotives is continuing to grow with the introduction of CSX 1871 painted in a custom design honoring the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL). First appearing in 1871, the ACL was officially incorporated in 1900 and extended from Georgia to Richmond, Virginia, and later into Florida.
