New York City Fire Department Ladder Company 3 one of the FDNY’s oldest ladder companies, founded in 1865 has always stood watch over the East Village. But on September 11, 2001, its story became forever intertwined with one of our nation’s darkest days. That morning, as the World Trade Center burned, both tours of Ladder 3 stayed on duty, packing their rig with more firefighters than usual and racing toward the North Tower. Captain Patrick J. Brown and his crew were last heard from on the 35th
