Shocking! Within this cluster of storms, a single lightning bolt captured by NOAA Satellite and Information Service was recently certified by the World Meteorological Organization as the world’s longest flash on record. The horizontal distance of the bolt stretched 477 miles, from the central coast of Texas to southern Mississippi, when it flashed on April 29, 2020. This beats the previous record of 440.6 miles for a lightning strike across southern Brazil in 2018: https://bit.ly/MegaflashLightn

This global winds animation from NOAA weatherView shows the projected path of Tropical Cyclone 02A in the Arabian Sea. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, 02A is located approximately 220 nautical miles southwest of Karachi, Pakistan, and, over the past six hours, the storm has moved westward at 8 knots (or just over 9 miles per hour).
