Macaque Species

Rhesus macaques are one of the best known species of Old World monkeys. They have the widest geographic range of any nonhuman primate. They are native to South, Central, and Southeast Asia and inhabit a great variety of habitats. In the U.S., they are often found in the pet trade and used as research subjects.
